NASHVILLE, Tenn., September 3, 2003 According to a new survey by the Tennessee Department of Health, one-quarter of all Tennesseans smoke cigarettes on a regular basis. Thats why Centennial Medical Center and the American Lung Association have partnered to present Freedom from Smoking classes beginning October 7th.
The classes are sponsored by The Thomas F. Frist, Sr., Heart Wellness Center at Centennial Medical Center and will be held at the center located at 2410 Patterson Street, Suite 102. The Freedom from Smoking program is designed to assist adults in their efforts to stop smoking. A $50 fee paid by check made payable to the American Lung Association is required upon enrollment and will be refunded to each participant completing the program with a perfect attendance (excused absences will be accepted).
Centennial Medical Center Exercise Physiologist Kerry Cummings says the classes will focus on behavioral changes where participants will become more aware of their smoking habits and patterns and be taught new ways to replace those habits with healthier alternatives.
The eight-week program begins October 7th. The classes will meet evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on the following dates: October 7th, October 14, October 21, October 28, October 30, November 4, November 11 and November 25.
